THE ARSENAL AND THE MARITIME MUSEUM

 

The museum was founded in 1919 after the First World War.

it is located on Campo San Biagio, near the ancient Venetian Arsenal, in an historic 15th century  building, once in use as a granary.

The Arsenal, the most iconic and historically significant building in the history of the Italian Navy,  was to become the heart of the museum, when at the end of the 17th century the "House of Models" was built, to house various models of ships, which then would be reproduced on a larger scale, in order to build full- size ships.
